In the heart of the Cremona countryside, a 12,990 m² complex dedicated to livestock farming has been built, one of the largest and most modern in the region. The historic Ferrari Ciboldi Donata Farm has chosen to expand by focusing on facilities designed with animal welfare and operational efficiency in mind.

The project has resulted in three new barns, each covering approximately 4,300 square metres. Two of these will eventually house over 650 lactating cows, whilst the third has been designed as a multi-purpose space, featuring straw-bedded pens, sections for dry and fresh cows, and a large area for calves. This area features over one hundred single-unit pens with dedicated milking areas and spaces for subsequent growth.

To complete the project, a 2,550 m² barn was already built in 2018 for calves from three months old up to pregnant heifers, capable of accommodating around 250 animals in a functional and comfortable environment.

Alongside the new facilities, the company has also chosen to invest in a sustainable energy model, focusing on the circular economy. The project involves a 250 kW biogas plant, consisting of two digesters fed by livestock waste from the adjoining barns.

This approach enables the by-products of livestock farming to be converted into renewable energy, reducing waste and making the most of every farm resource. But the journey does not stop there: plans are in place to convert the first 1 MW biogas plant, built in 2011, to biomethane, reinforcing the farm’s role as a benchmark in the agricultural sector’s energy transition.
